Homework Policy
Homework is given Monday - Thursday. Homework will normally consist of one math page, one spelling page, reading for 20 minutes and logging it in their planners. The homework is subject to change at any time and students will be given notice and able to write it in their planners. Homework is due the following morning. Additionally, students are responsible for getting their planner signed nightly.
If homework is not complete at the time it is due, students will finish the incomplete work during their recess. When the incomplete work is finished, the students may go out to recess. If the student does not have their planner signed, the student will owe 5 minutes of their recess time.
Completeness is based on effort, not solely on having the correct answer. If the student attempted to solve every problem and showed their work, that will be counted as complete.
Planners
Students are responsible for making sure their planner is signed every night and they will be held accountable on a daily basis. The planner should have all of the homework assignments written in it and any additional notes or reminders. Also, students will color or write in their behavior for that day. The homework will also be posted on the website as a back up.
Absences
If a student is absent they will have the same number of days that they missed to make up the missed homework and/or classwork. For example, if a student is absent 2 days, then they have 2 days to make up the missed homework.
Testing Retake Policy
If students receive a Level 1 on a test (below 59%), they will be required to retake the problems they missed on the test after the concepts are retaught in a small group setting. Students who receive a Level 2 (60% - 74%) will also be able to retake the missed problems after the concepts are retaught in a small group setting. It is optional to retake for students who receive a Level 2. The highest score the student can receive on the new assessment is a Level 3 (84%). Students scoring 75% or above (Level 3 or 4) will not be allowed to retake the assessment since they have already proven their understanding of the concepts being taught.
